Is Taxing Pop Really a Solution? Response.

It’s hard to overeat without noticing it. By contrast, soda and other sugar-sweetened beverages can sneak up on you, adding hundreds of calories to your diet each day without ever filling you up. In a new effort to highlight the health impact of sweetened drinks, the Health Department is confronting New Yorkers with a bold question: Are you pouring on the pounds?

Like Bronx adults, Bronx teens reported high intake of sugary drinks. When public high school students were asked whether they drank at least one soda a day over the course of a week, the proportion answering “yes” was 29% in the Bronx, followed by Staten Island (25%), Queens (23%), Brooklyn (22%) and Manhattan (21%). Teens who drink sugary beverages get an average of 360 calories from them each day – an amount they would have to walk 70 city blocks to burn.

It’s no secret that soft drinks have gotten bigger over the years. Soda used to come in 6.5-ounce bottles. Today, 12-ounce cans are considered small and 20-ounce bottles are typical. A single super-sized soda can pack as many calories as three to four regular cans of soda.

Cut down the fat of what you're eating, its your health you're affecting. Watching the video was discusting and disturbing. It literelly made me want a glass of milk and cut down the drinking of coke or soda. I think that the growing obesity in our nation is due to fast foods. They are everywhere, every corner and different type of fast foods. Yes, they are good, thats what makes us eat them and eat them time after time, but it isn't good for us and though you cant see the affect that it does in our bodies as soon as we eat them, but long term you will notice, and you will regret eating so much junk food. If the new tax goes through in America, and later in Canada people would still continue to buy large sums of pop or chips, its just like Mc Donalds, if the price went up, we would still purchase it because it taste good, but isn't good for us. The unhealthiest things are the ones that we eat the most.

Photo Manipulation on Hiatus in the Media. Response.

Photo manipulation has become so prevalent in media. It has been used heavily to influence our opinions on political parties, figures, celebrities, body image, and so on. Because of this, it has become a bit controversical ethical issue. This is a great problem. Almost all images that are published in magazines have been in the process of photoshop, and this is were the problem begins, when we look at these pictures we think "wow! they're gorgeous." but, are they really? or many they are wearing so much make-up that they cant even smile or maybe their face was airbrushed. You look at their body and wish you were that thin - but the thing is, they aren't even that thin. This is all fake. You are looking at fake things and want to become like that, you try and try and try and this may lead to many things such as eating disorters and such, but you never get the way that these models are for the reason that they can't even be that way, they aren't real. Photo Manipulation is a big problem, is influences the readers to be a certain way that doesn't even exist. Here are some example of Photo manipulation photos:

If you notice, this model has been photoshopped to seem perfect, but really, she isn't. Her leg was fixed so no cellulite was shown, in the after picture her leg looks amazing, no bumps and a perfect skin colour. Her waist was also photoshoped to seem way smaller, and so was her arm. Her face was made softer, smoother and lighter all this making her seem gorgeous. Make up also play a big role in completely changing people, like such:

Thats funny. They dont even look like their self.

Its rare when you see natural pictures, girls with no make up on, their natural hair, their natural body, its differen't you stare at it for a while, and you say wow, they're beautiful and theyre not even photoshopped or wearing make up. This should be the type of photographs that we should be seeing, something to give us examples that we shouldn't be like those photoshoped girls, we should be natural, we shouldn't follow a certain trend. Here are pictures of Natural looking girls that we should sometimes think of following:

The Changing face of Video Games. Response.

Though I am not deeply interested in video games, everyone at some point has played videos games and most commonly Mario. It is amazing once you look back at videos games from before, and look at the video games from now. Starting from sticks to stick figures, moving into more specific spaces, cartoon characters, and now lastly human like characters, making it seem like you're present in the game and you are seeing everything like you would in a real game. From the oldest Nintendo, to the Nintendo 64, Game Cube, Xbox, newest Xbox, and now The Wii. The Wii allows the player to be physically active, sometimes also mentally and virtually. As technology develops so does video games.

Do you see the difference in all of the above Mario Karts? How they have developed through years and how it has changed, it is much more clear and some provide internet while others have cool cars and different clothing for all characters. The development in Video games is due to the development in technology.

In my opinion, this games have evoloped enough to the point that they are detrimental to us. They aren't good. They more as addicting, once you start you dont want to stop and playing non-stop will obviously result into something bad. This distracts you from your real life, and you set everything aside because of one video game. In my opinion this new games aren't considered to be called video games anymore, sure they are games but technology is way to far off making video games so real that it looks like its real life.

Remember that nintendo system? Nintendo 64. That can be you, just imagine its an Xbox.

BBC research indicates that 60% of people, of all ages play video games. I'd say that its safe to assume the proportion is similar in the rest of the post-industrial world. The proportion of youth identified as gamers is even higher then this and as they get older they also wont stop meaning that the number will increase.

Social Awareness Contradiction. Response.

The Dove Campaign for Real Beauty in my opinion, is a great idea. This campaign actually helps people in understanding that we shouldn't be a certain way, measure a certain amount, be a certain skin colour, weight a certain amount or such, it tells us that the media influences us in many ways and tells us that to be perfect and fit in society we must be a certain way other wise. This Campaign tells us everyone is beautiful in their own unique way, no matter how we look. They launch natural beauty products that represent their natural look, in my opinion Dove Campaign is good for many people whose self esteem is down.

Though I agree that Dove is a great natural product to promote natural beauty and how we all have natural beauty within us, and that we shouldn't follow a certain magazine telling us how we should be, how we should look, how thin we should be and so on, I do not agree with Axe commercials. Axe commercials are known for a male applying their product and then is attactive to all women, all women attack him after he applies to product because the product made him 'wantable.' This product uses false statement to get consumers to purchase their product, of course that you're not going to get thousands of girls chase you because of a certain smell, though people still choice to buy it.

Of course you wont get a group of girls dressed as officers after applying their product, though you might like that, the companies puts what you like to grab the viewers eye and buy their product.

It is hard to believe that Dove and Axe are parent companies, since one helps you with your self esteem and supplies natural beauty products while the other one encourages man that if you apply that product you will get a lot of women, one targets more so to women and the other targets more so to men. Men and Women are both affected differently by media in the world, but both differently. Women want to look a certain way, and that is were Dove comes in and tells us that we are beatiful in our own way and not with what we see in magazines. Men, are concern about getting girls to look at them and that is were Axe comes in, therefore I think that a parent company has some responsibility to ensure that all of their different sectors uphold the same sort of beliefs and values.

Ads of the past - Did they really say that? Response.

From seeing the following advertisement, I find it funny that people actually made this and were able to be public for the audience and exposed to younger children. This is my response for each of the advertisements:

1. Fat! Fat! Fat. Fat Banished...

This advertisement is shocking. It is shocking how they advertised something that would not be good for you, a tape worm is not good for your body specially if you are taking it in for the pleasure of being skinny. This tape work can travel to your brain and cause many damages. Now, advertisements would promote a much healthier idea instead of before such as the one at the side. The advertisement that are shown now are more like the advertisement at the right side, they promote a much healthier idea then what they did in the earlier years.

2. Blowing her face and she will follow you everywhere...

Advertisement promoting smoking are hardly seen now a days since smoking is a very dangerous thing that can be the cause of many death. Now a days, we see more advertisements to stop smoking and how smoking is extremely bad for your body. Advertisements from early years were bad influence specially little kids that were exposed to these messages.
3. They're happy because they eat Lard.

This Advertisement seems a bit unprofessional in my opinion, and also a bit kiddish. It is really straight forward and the idea that because eating a certain product will make you happy is really unprofessional, products now a day are more creative and the idea behind the advertisement are hidden well but still get the viewers Idea.

4. More doctors smoke camels than any other cigarette!
Once again, this advertisement are never seen now a days, since smoking is no longer supported. Back in the day, it seem like smoking was supported and seem to be cool, and since the advertisement is saying that many doctors do it often, it gives the idea that it is fine for everyone to do it.

Advertisement in the early years seem to be freely, and accepted in the public while being exposed to many children, they were very unhealthy while now most advertisement focus on not smoking and healthy eating.

Hey, Guess what? I can see you. Response.

The new application launched by Google called Google street view in my opinion is very dangerous in many ways. Though Google has tried to make this some what private by blurring faces and licence plates it is not enough to protect our privacy, the blur isn't blurry enough and you can still see the outline of our faces and can make the numbers of the licence plate. Our bodies are also shown and you are able to tell who the person is by their body, clothing and shape. You can tell what car it is from the year, style, model, and so on. The blur isn't a good privacy setting for us. Many people search online in this new application, and you are being exposed to millions of people, a lot with bad intentions. When searching my address, it does not show any pictures of me, but also though you cannot see anyone in the streets it is possible to see through the windows making everything visible, this wouldn't be safe at all. In conclusion, from this new application made by Google called Google street view, I think that they need to make it more private and instead of blurring things out, blocking the whole person out and cars as well, and also windows that are visible.

As seen in this picture, you are able to see the two girls and who they are, this is very unsafe since it is exposed to many people in the Internet and many with bad intentions.

This image makes it really clear of the car model, and can also be very dangerous since the owner is also somewhat shown.
